Miss Pakistan World 2008
Natasha Paracha[2] from Islamabad, Pakistan and residing in New York City, USA, has been crowned the new Miss Pakistan World[3] in an annual beauty pageant which, according to its founder, would enable Pakistani women "to stand up for change and progression" in a society that frowns on such events on its soil.[4][5]
Graduated from the University of California Berkeley in 2005 with honors in Political Science and Business. She is the founding member of the Pakistani Students Association at UC Berkeley. Natasha Paracha is also the founder of a non-profit called Vision of Development in which the goal is to reach out to the poverty stricken regions in Pakistan. Alongside her academic achievements, Natasha is also the reigning Miss Pakistan World. She will compete internationally representing the country of Pakistan.
At the sixth annual beauty pageant [1] in Toronto [2], the gorgeous Paracha beat ten (10) Pakistani beauties to win the crown.
After her crowning, she said her goal over the next year is not only to represent Miss Pakistan World at several events and charities but also raise awareness that 51 million Pakistanis do not have access to medical care. Natasha got known to the world after making statements against the Taliban which the Pakistani government compromising with. During her reign, Natasha Paracha got involved with a lot of charities and spread the positive image of Pakistan to the world. She was seen on major Television Stations in the USA, Canada, India and Pakistan.
Statements against Taliban
According to an interview with the Press Trust of India (PTI),[6] Natasha Paracha took out a statement against the Taliban infecting Pakistan.
" Pakistan is a "nation where we have been infected with these pests Taliban".The deal reached by the banned Tehrik-e-Nifaz-e-Shariah Mohammedi and authorities to enforce Islamic law "is not a solution for Pakistan and Pakistanis", she said.
"If they have the Shariah law imposed in Swat valley,[7] then it will spread to the whole of Pakistan. Democracy means (being) under one law, not different laws in different provinces of Pakistan. The government should never compromise with terrorists,[8]" Paracha said[9] in an email interview with PTI.
"We should never give in (and) instead make sure that they are out of Pakistan[10]!" she said.References
