The airline was started operations in September 2000. It was a wholly owned subsidiary of Varig and employs 1,345 staffFact|date=February 2007. VarigLog was purchased for US$48.2 million by
Volo do Brasil in December 2005. The Volo group is a consortium started byMatlin Patterson and Brazilian investors (Marco Antonio Audi, Marco Hapfel and Luiz Gallo).The negotiation was concluded in June 2006, after regulatory approval. The National Civil Aviation Agency imposed several demands to approve the purchase. In July 2006, Volo bought its one-time parentVarig andRio Sul Serviços Aéreos Regionais (a subsidiary ofVarig ).In March 2008, there are reports of asset transfers between (LC) Varig Logistica and (JW) Arrow Air as Arrow Air Cargo was also being merged into the MatlinPatterson holding company.
