The Schleswig-Holstein Landtag is the state diet of the German federal state of
Schleswig-Holstein . It convenes in the state's capitalKiel and currently consists of 69 members of five parties. Its main competences are in the fields of education, culture, regional planning and domestic politics. The current majority is a coalition of the Social Democratic Party and the Christian Democratic Union, supporting the cabinet ofMinister-President Peter Harry Carstensen .The Landtag maintains partnerships with the diet of the
West Pomeranian Voivodeship , the Oblast Duma of theKaliningrad Oblast and the parliament of thePomeranian Voivodeship .eat
Since
1950 , the Landtag convenes in theLandeshaus in Kiel, which was built in1888 as the Royal Marine Academy. Up to 1950, the Landtag convened inLübeck ,Flensburg andEckernförde as well as in Kiel. Since its renovation in 2003, the Landtag is assembled in a new Chamber inside of the Landeshaus.Current Composition
After the elections of
February 20 ,2005 , the composition of the Landtag is as follows:Elections are conducted using a proportional representation system, with a minimum of 5% vote share to receive any seats. This is not the case for the
South Schleswig Voter Federation , representing the Danish and Frisian minorities in Schleswig-Holstein and thus being exempt from the 5% rule.Presidents of the Landtag
