A bottle of Campari is prominently displayed in the video in a scene featuring Hudson and Gentles at a nightclub.

Jennifer appears talking on her cellphone to her friend, complaining about her over-protective boyfriend. She is seen walking in an alley, then entering a club, dancing and having a good time until she sees her boyfriend. She then takes his hand and leads him into a white room with stripes telling him that she loves him but that he needs to realize that she's a good girl and not to worry before it's too late. At the end of the video Jennifer is walking down a runway.

Jennifer Hudson's video debuted on BET's "106 & Park" countdown on July 31, 2008 at number ten. So far, the video peak at number four.

The video has reached #1 on the TRL Voting Countdown.It debuted at number 14 also on VH1 Top 20 Countdown on September 27, 2008.

Chart performance

"Spotlight" has so far peaked at #29 on the "Billboard" Hot 100, giving Hudson her first top forty hit to date on the chart. It has had big success on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, peaking at #2, and #1 on the Hot Adult R&B Airplay so far, and making it her first #1 single of her career.

On September 21, 2008, the song entered the UK Singles Chart at #15cite journal|title = Official Singles Chart for the week ending 27 September 2008|journal = ChartsPlus|issue = 370|pages= 1-4|accessdate = 2008-09-24|publisher = IQ Ware Ltd|location = Milton Keynes] on downloads alone.
