Maxwell Homfray Maxwell-Gumbleton

Maxwell Homfray Maxwell-Gumbleton was an Anglican Bishop in the first half of the 20th century. Born on 17 June 1872 into a legal family [His father was a Puisne Judge in Jamaica >“Who was Who” 1897-1990 London, A & C Black, 1991 ISBN 071363457X] and educated at Repton and Peterhouse, he was ordained in 1896. After a curacy in Pucklechurch [ [http://www.btinternet.com/~gumbleton/people/PZ0162a.html During which time he married Ella Gillum] ] he rose rapidly in the Church hierarchy becoming successively Vicar of Colerne, Rural Dean of Chippenham and Bishop of Ballarat . After a ten year stint he returned to England where he was appointed as an assistant to the Bishop of St Edmundsbury and Ipswich- a post which was later expanded to become the Suffragan Bishop of Dunwich [The Times, Wednesday, Aug 22, 1934; pg. 13; Issue 46839; col F "A New Suffragan Bishopric"] . He died on 1 February 1952.
