He representedWales at the1966 Commonwealth Games inKingston, Jamaica (formally the Empire Games), riding the Scratch Race, Kilo, Sprint, Individual Pursuit and Road Race. He ran garage on Maindy Road, opposite the cycle track. Smart coached many youngsters and was the Welsh Cycling Union's track co-ordinator and member of the Maindy track league committeeSteve Jones and Eddie Smart were two of the main helpers at the Junior Rour of Wales. They were killed in a car accident on the
M4 inBerkshire . John Richards, the race's organizer has dedicated to them, a Memorial Shield for the best Welsh Rider, which is awarded annually at the Junior Tour of Wales.
