The Famous

The Famous

The Famous is a roots rock band from San Francisco, CA. Formed in 2003 by vocalist/guitarist Laurence Scott and guitarist Victor Barclay, The Famous symbolize the cutting edge of Americana – a raw, scorching blast of rocket-fueled post-punk guitar and country twang, a blasphemous marriage of indie-styled rock & roll and cowboy laments. Inspired by the slash-and-burn ferocity of The Pixies and the heartland melancholy of Hank Williams, Sr., The Famous weave a synthesis of past & present American rock.

As an adolescent, Barclay was inspired by heavy metal artists such as Van Halen and Led Zeppelin. However, his focus turned to country music when a friend of his introduced him to the work of Johnny Cash. The Texas-born Scott, on the other hand, had his tastes shaped by '80s alternative rock bands like The Pixies, R.E.M., and They Might Be Giants as well as roots rock. The Famous ended up a hybrid of both styles. The group acquired international praise with their debut album "Light, Sweet Crude" in 2004 and even received an Emmy Award nomination a year later.
