"The Listeners" is a science fiction novel by American author James Gunn. It centers on a long term search for extraterrestrial life conducted by listening to cosmic radio waves. Each chapter focuses on a different character, ranging from the project director, a journalist, and the President of the United States. Although the search is unifying background of the novel, the chapters extensively explore the personal effect of the search on the lives of the characters.
