St. Mary's Diocesan School for Girls is a private boarding and day school for girls situated in the leafy suburb of Kloof, near Durban, in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.

History

The school was founded in 1906 on its original site on Field's Hill in Kloof and was called "St. Elizabeth's". It relocated to its present site in 1909 and was renamed "St. Mary's" in 1919 at the stipulation of a benefactor.

The school has an Anglican foundation and Archbishop Desmond Tutu delivered an address and attended the annual prizegiving in 1994.

The school celebrated its centenary in 2006.

It has over 9 hectares of grounds; 660 metres above sea level overlooking Durban and the Indian Ocean.

It is recognised as both a top-performing and highly prestigious girls' school with excellent facilities, offering a wide range of choices in the academic, sporting and cultural spheres to students from the pre-primary level to matriculation.

Day scholars are accommodated throughout the school, with boarding available from the high school.

Academics

St. Mary's is one of the top schools that write the Independent Examinations Board exams and its leavers achieve consistently high results.
