22 June 1856 and educated atBedford Grammar School andMagdalen College, Oxford ["Who was Who" 1897-1990 London, A & C Black, 1991 ISBN 071363457X] .Ordained in 1881 after a curacy inLytham he was successivelyVicar ofMiles Platting , Wentworth andSharrow before being appointedRural Dean ofRotherham .
