SGHC Council

SGHC Council

The Student Government Homecoming Council (SGHC Council) is the first traveling committee established by high school seniors from 20 different European countries, with the purpose of organizing a formal dance for the 50 Student Government groups involved. The council was founded on September 12, 2006, at Erasmiaans Gymnasium in Rotterdam, Holland by a group of twelve students, led by Edvard Samuelsson. Since then, hundreds of high school students have joined the council and take part in the yearly advertising and organizing of the colossal event.

Each member of the committee has been chosen as a representative from their high school. The criteria for becoming a member of the SGHC Council involves letters of recommendation, an application essay, and passing grades in all required secondary school courses. The admission process of getting accepted to the council has been compared to the admission process of prestigious universities, both by students and faculty involved. Teachers may join the council only after working at their school for a minimum of three years, whilst high school students may only apply for membership their senior year of high school.

The committee has grown tremendously, and several members of the council now work with small businesses, hospitals, stores, and universities to make sure their board members take part in creating social events for their board of local politics. The council’s document and pictorial archives are currently located at Midel Delfland, Holland.

Homecoming Court

The main happening at the Dance is the annunciation of the ‘’Homecoming Court’’. To be nominated for a homecoming court title a student must have been elected as Homecoming Queen or Homecoming King at their own high school, they cannot be a member of the SGHC, and they must be involved with their school’s student government. It is common for the winner of the royal title to be the president, or hold an important position, in their school’s student council.
