He was a great-great-grandson of
Aparicio Saravia , the prominentUruguayan National (Blanco) Party and Civil War leader, who died following theBattle of Masoller in 1904, and who had a strong following inCerro Largo .He was a great-great-great nephew of
Gumercindo Saravia , Civil War Leader inRio Grande ,Brazil .His mother committed suicide while he was a child.

He was the elected leader of the regional administration of
