Amal International School (also abbreviated as A.I.S.), founded in January 1991, is one of the most popular middle-class international schools of Sri Lanka. It was first launched as a social service project to develop and expand local English-medium studies. AIS is one of the vast cluster of schools located in the Havelock Town region of Colombo, the commercial capital of Sri Lanka.

Location

The school is located in the Western Province of Sri Lanka, next to the "Kirulapana Canal" which is headed south-west to the Wellawatta shoreline at a distance of convert|1600|m|ft|0|abbr=on from the school. Amal has a spectacular view of the construction of the prestigious "Havelock City Project", which is one of the largest and most expensive architectural residential/commercial apartments complex, designed by the ECADI.

Studies and annual events

Amal currently follows the "Local-Curriculum", which is a subject-formatting followed by many other schools of Sri Lanka. Majority of the extra-curricular events that take place annually are listed below:
* The annual prize-giving ceremony (held at the begenning of each year)
* Educational tour
* English Day
* Islamic Day
* Sports meet (aquatic sports takes place less often)

The annual "Aquatic Meet" is held as a different event apart the "Sports Meet", but still under the category. The "Aquatic Meet" is held about once in two years, or less often. Field-trips and touring activities are also quite poor, as it has been cancelled many times (due to nationwide security threats) in spite it being an annual event.

Sports & Recreational Activities

Amal International School is one of the most actively-participated schools in basketball, and is now one of the leading school in the field. "AIS Basketball Teams" are coached by Gerald Jacob, who is nation-recognized as one of the most popular and successful basketball coaches of Sri Lanka. Gerald is also the Sports Coordinator of the school.
