The Alex Awards are given annually to the top ten books published during the previous year that were written for adults but which are judged to have "special appeal" for young adults. The first set of awards were presented in
1998 .It is sponsored by "
Booklist " magazine and by theMargaret Alexander Edwards Trust from where the awards get their name, as Edwards preferred to be called "Alex". Since2002 the awards have been administered by theAmerican Library Association .Past Winners
