Ezra Kire is an American
singer ,guitarist , andsongwriter , sometimes known as Ezra Crack, Ezra Glory, and sometimes "WayWay."Singer/songwriter
Ezra Arrow Kire was born on December 30th of 1975 in the small Canadian/US border town of Grand Forks. He moved frequently from place to place while his parents picked up work in construction and eventually government aid which took him overseas to the city of Colombo, Sri Lanka. It was here that he started his first band with friend Derek Dees. They played their first ever show at theOverseas International School cafeteria, and two shows after that including the senior prom in 1990. They were in the 8th grade. From the first time Ezra picked up a guitar, at age 6, he never put it down. Except from ages 7 to 10 when he was too busy skateboarding, and doing homework. In Sri Lanka he discovered punk rock, metal, and hip hop and music became his passion. After his parents moved back to Canada Ezra left home. According to one interview he said he was "kicked out" by his father who he didn't see eye to eye with; and according to another he ran away to San Francisco. What's sure is that he joined a gang of american freight train riders who came to be called "The Lead Pipe Crusaders" in newspapers. Somewhere in this time he started writing songs for and about his friends, based on the real life situations he was experiencing sleeping under bridges and being strung out on drugs like crystal meth and heroin. Ironically, he is mostly known for writing uplifting melodies and lyrics. In 1997 he moved to New York City and joined
ska/punk bandChoking Victim , later to become the bandLeftover Crack . Though he has a tenuous relationship with singer Scott Stergeon, (both claiming to be the better song writer), together they became one of the biggest punk rock bands on the underground music scene. They have released records on three of the world's largest major-indie labelsHellcat/Epitaph, Alternative Tentacles, and most recently Fat Wreck Chords, and worked withSteve Albini, Jello Biafra, Micheal Parente, Fat Mike, Anti Flag, The Dead Kennedies, MDC, and many other notable artist. After years of touring Canada, the United States, and Europe (most recently Greece -where they were too drunk to stand up,) Leftover Crack only tour a few months out of the year because they "can't stand each other".A part of the seductive New york artistic community, Ezra's addiction to heroin became more than he could manage and he disappeared for a year before entering recovery on March 25th of 2008. (A chronic relapser, and a product of "too much free time and money," Ezra claims to suffer from depression and insomnia.) Returning with his new band
Morning Glory they are currently touring and recording for his record labelRevolution Rock Records . He still lives on the Lower East Side of Manhattan writing songs for his friends as well as the hundreds of thousands of kids around the globe who still love his music and live concerts as much as he loves playing.References
