John E. S. Lawrence is Adjunct Professor of International Affairs at
Columbia University , New York.As a noted mountain climber and guide, he led in 1966-7 a New Zealand Antarctic Research Programme [http://www.antarcticanz.govt.nz/] expedition to Victoria Land,
Antarctica , mapping a previously unexplored region of the Transantarctic Range, and the Lawrence Peaks were named after him by the New Zealand Government [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lawrence_peaks] .
