Holly Flax is a fictional character in the US television series, The Office. Flax is played by Amy Ryan.

Overview

Holly Flax is the new human resources representative for the Scranton branch of Dunder-Mifflin. Flax replaced Toby Flenderson in the season 4 finale, the episode Goodbye, Toby. At first, Michael Scott portrays a dislike for Holly Flax because of his prejudice against human resources, attributed mainly to his experience working with Toby. After having actually met Holly, Michael Scott develops a love interest in her and seeks Jim Halpert for office dating advice and later refers to Oscar Martinez for advice. Holly is seen as one of the few people in the office who stand for Michael's obnoxious jokes and rude behavior towards Toby, and she is also shown to possibly be attracted to Michael. She also seems to share his terrible sense of humor. Michael did shun her after Holly recommended Meredith Palmer be fired after learning Meredith was trading sex with a Hammermill representative in exchange for discounted paper (and Outback Steakhouse coupons), but Holly was stunned when Corporate HR not only didn't mind Meredith's behavior but castigated her for not getting the seminar's boilerplate signatures in on time. Michael then stood up for Holly and yelled at the staffers to finish the seminar, and they complied.

At Michael's urging (before developing his crush), Dwight teams up with Meredith to haze Holly. In his first act of hazing, Dwight informs Holly that Kevin is mentally retarded and that he is working at Dunder-Mifflin on the Special Work Program. Later, Dwight, Mose, and Meredith scheme to place a racoon in Holly's car.

Holly originally hails from Des Moines, Iowa and practices yoga. She is a fan of The Counting Crows. In a deleted scene from Goodbye, Toby, Flax's debut episode, her co-worker Meredith Palmer refers to Flax as a "bitch".
