Lip Service was a game show aired from 1992-1995 on the U.S. television channel
MTV . It was hosted originally byJohn Ales , who was followed in the position byJay Mohr . The host was always joined by a rap-style DJ. The DJ's wereSpinderella (fromSalt 'N Pepa ),Monie Love andYo! MTV Raps regular T-Money. On the show, 2 teams from U.S. colleges and universities competed in alip-sync contest. The high scoring team each round won a prize, but in round 3, a vacation went to the day's high scorers.Gameplay
Deadly Medley
In this first round, players didn't know what songs would come up or the order in which they would appear. They had to lip-sync anyway and would get a score of 1-10 from each of 3 judges, scoring on accuracy, body mechanics(later changed to "Sass") and overall performance.
Flip-Sync
For round 2, a music video was shown, but the contestants sang the song instead of the artist in the video. Scoring in each category was again 1-10.
cratch Factor
In the final round, the teams each perform a rehearsed lip-sync performance. During the performance, the team had to react to whatever the DJ did to try and slip them up(scratching, moving the record backwards, speeding up or slowing down the song, etc.). Scoring for this round was 1-20(10-20 after Mohr took over). Instead of this round's prize going to the winner of the round, it was the grand prize and went to the high-scoring team of the day.
