Background

Loving Wings originated as an intro tease to the song Where Are You Going during the Spring of 2002. During the first part of that summer, the intro developed into a full fledged song with lyrics and key contributions from every band member. It continued to be played as a prelude to Where Are You Going until Winter 2002, when it appeared standalone for the very first time. According to the set lists, the band did not recognize Loving Wings as a separate and distinct song until December 14, 2002 [cite web |url=http://69.80.208.202/dmbalmanaccom/setscans/453055921.jpg|title=12.14.2002, Champaign, IL Setlist |publisher=DMBAlmanac.com |accessdate=2008-05-18] .

Meaning

Loving Wings is one of the few Dave Matthews Band songs that includes lyrics which are completely uplifting and leave little for interpretation by the listener. It is a truly romantic song about the ideal perfect partner.
