The People's Progressive Party is a political party in the Solomon Islands. It was the dominant party in the country under diverse names in the seventies, eighties and nineties under its then leader Solomon Mamaloni. The party did well in the August 1997 parliamentary elections, but Mamaloni resigned as leader and Danny Philip replaced him. Other parties made a coalition against it and no member of the party became prime minister. Philip did not last long as party leader. The party was known as the National Unity Group from 1989 until the late 1990s. prime miniAfter the resignation of the leader of the Solomon Islands Liberal Party, Bartholomew Ulufa'alu, as prime minister, PPP leader Manasseh Sogavare became prime minister. At the legislative elections of 5 december 2001 the party won 3 out of 50 seats.
