The Grier School

Grier School For Girls is an all girls boarding school located in Tyrone, Pennsylvania near Penn State University. Founded in 1853, the school is known for its school symbol, a green and white shield with a pine tree. The school lies at the heart of the Appalachian Mountains [http://www.grier.org/map.htm map] and currently enrolls students in grades 7 to 12. As of 2005, there were 195 students enrolled from 22 states and 18 foreign countries. The girls come from a variety of ethnic and religious backgrounds. The annual tuition is $40,000 although some students receive financial aid. The school moto is "Sana Mens In Corpore Sano"," meaning "Sound Mind in a Sound Body".The Grier School is also host to Allegheny Camp during the summer months, in which a number of boarders also attend.

Sports

Students are required to participate in seasonal sports. A wide variety of sports are offered each term.Grier's equestrian team is a force to be reckoned with. They also support a volleyball, soccer, dance, swimming and tennis teams.

International

Grier School plays host to a large percent of international students, coming from more than 20 different countries each year.

Co-ed Activities

Grier girls and Kiski boys enjoy a dance together at the prom [http://www.grier.org/galleryPics/050430promline.jpgpicture] . Kiski is the oldest remaining all-male boarding school in the US. It is located in nearby Saltsburg, Pennsylvania.
