Students Federation of India

Students Federation of India (SFI) is one of the major student organisations of India. SFI is politically linked to the Communist Party of India (Marxist). SFI was founded in 1970. As of 2005, it claimed a membership strength of nearly 3.5 million school and university students. [cite news

The All India Secretary of this organization is K.K. Ragesh, and the President is R. Arunkumar.

Influence

Though SFI is active throughout India, it is prominent in student politics in the states of West Bengal, Kerala, Tripura and Andhra Pradesh. It has a strong base in the Universities of West Bengal . It has a few other strongholds which include Jawaharlal Nehru University in Delhi, Himachal Pradesh University in Shimla, Hyderabad Central University, Osmania University, Kerala University, University of Calicut,University of Rajasthan and Mahatma Gandhi University.

In Tripura there is a special suborganisation for tribal students, Tribal Students Union.

Publications

The official organ "Student Struggle" is published monthly in English. It is currently edited by Ritabrata Banerjee. Apart from this many of the state committees of SFI publish magazines in the corresponding regional language. "Chhatra Sangram" is the Bengali organ published by the West Bengal State Committee."Student" is the Kerala organ published by the Kerala State Committee. Resistance is the E-Journal of SFI Kerala Unit. "Researcher" is the journal of rsearch scholars published by the Kerala state committee. "Student Struggle" is published in Telugu by the Andhra Pradesh State Committee of SFI.

1. P.Biju and Shamseer are selected as secretary and president of the kerala state committee.

2. Koustav Chatterjee, and Sayandip Chatterjee are the elected secretary and president of the West Bengal State Commitee from 06/07/2008.

3. H.R. Naveen Kumar and B. Rajashekaramurthy are the Secretary and President respectively of the Karnataka State Committee.

4. Gotam Damor and Aabid Husain are the elected Secretary and President of the Rajasthan State Committee .

5. Kanagaraj and N.Regish Kumar are the Secretary and President respectively of the Tamil Nadu State Committee.

(1) Jhabar Rad and Satyjeet Singh Bhichar are elected Secretary and President of Sikar (Rajasthan) district committee.(2)Dharam Veer Kuri, R.C. Mandota and Suresh Bagria are elected Secretary, joint Secretary and President of Sikar Tehsil committee.
