He has served the head football coach, head men's track and field and cross country coach, and interim athletic director at Prairie View A&M University.[1]

Playing career
Gilliard played football at Prairie View as a halfback. He was a three year letterman and played for Prairie View's 1958 national championship team under William J. Nicks, and was named all-conference that same year.[2]
Coaching carer
Football
Gilliard was the 20th head college football coach for the Prairie View A&M University Panthers located in Prairie View, Texas, a position he held during the 1999 season. His career coaching record at Prairie View was 2 wins, 8 losses, and 0 ties. As of the conclusion of the 2007 season, this ranks him 18th at Prairie View in total wins and 15th at Prairie View in winning percentage (.200).[3][4]
Track and field, cross country
Gilliard is the current track and field coach at Prairie View. In 2008, he was named Men's Indoor Track and Field Coach of the Year for the Southwestern Athletic Conference.[5]
