Joel Gill (born July 20, 1951 in
Saint Joseph, Missouri is the Democratic party nominee for the 3rd Congressional District member of theUnited States House of Representatives . He is currently analderman and cattle broker fromPickens, Mississippi .Gill attended
Millsaps College and became involved in politics in 1973 when he ran for City Commissioner ofJackson, Mississippi . He was first elected Alderman in 1989 and was recently elected to the position again in 2005 for a second (non-consecutive) term.Gill won the primary to be the Democratic candidate to represent
Mississippi's 3rd congressional district (which is being vacated by RepublicanChip Pickering onMarch 11 ,2008 ). He will face RepublicanGregg Harper and independent Jim Giles in the November general election.Gill is very involved with his United Methodist church. He is on the boards of several commerce and cattle industry organizations at the state and local levels. Gill and his wife Ann have two children, four grandchildren, and one great grandson.
