The Southern Luzon Command was officially activated on
01 January 1987 . It was first conceptualized in integrating two (2) Regional Unified Commands: Regional Unified Command 4 under the command of Brigadier General Andres B Ramos and Regional Unified Command 5 under Brigadier General Renato S De Villa. After a year of its inception, on 01 August 1988, SOLCOM was further reorganized as an Area Command pursuant to GHQ Letter of Instruction F; namely "Pagbabago Foxtrot".Later on, SoLCom has undergone significant organizational changes and re-structuring. SOLCOM was temporarily and formally deactivated on15 January 2001 giving its AOR to Northern Command (Now called Northern Luzon Command). Northern Command then supervised the whole Luzon Area and on27 March 2001 , SOLCOM’s deactivation was nullified and was reorganized from an Area to a Unified Command on01 May 2002 .Mission
Their mission is to conduct sustained Internal Security Operations (ISO) in Southern Luzon to neutralize the Communist-Terrorist Movement (CTM) and reduce their operational capabilities. One of their missions is to support local Law Enforcement as well as the
Philippine National Police in containing the NPA while supporting the peace process; and destroy the JI network operating in their AOR. This is needed to establish a secured backdoor to mainland Luzon and maintain a physically & psychologically sound environment conducive to growth and development in this southernmost part of the island.Lineage of Commanding Officers
