Scottish Gaelic : "Boraraigh") is an island in theOuter Hebrides ofScotland which lies 2km north ofNorth Uist .The island is dominated by Loch Mòr, big loch.
History
The island was occupied from prehistoric times and through the 19th century there were over 100 people living there, but in 1923, the island was evacuated at the request of the islanders. One family stayed on but left in the 1960s; the single croft forming the north-east part of the island was reoccupied in 1999. The
grazing rights for the remainder are leased to the crofters of the nearby island of Berneray. It was traditionally owned by the MacLeans. [ [http://www.geo.ed.ac.uk/scotgaz/features/featurefirst1981.html Overview of Boreray ] ]
