The site is located near the east bank of the
Minnesota River about four miles north of Jordan,Minnesota . An archaeological dig there revealed aniron axe, an irontomahawk , asandstone arrow smoother, and a fish spear. Twenty nineeffigy mound s are located just south of the village site, although these pre-date the artifacts by several centuries. The village was the winter home of about 325 people prior to theDakota War of 1862 .
