Ximena is the daughter of Fernando Sariñana and screenwriter Carolina Rivera, niece of famous Mexican actress Angélica Rivera and producer José Alberto Castro, brother of Verónica Castro. She is also the girlfriend of guitarist Omar Rodríguez-López of the American progressive rock band, The Mars Volta.

Before her musical career, Ximena acted in telenovelas—Latin-American soap operas. Music

Sariñana's first experience in the music industry came in 1996, when she sang the theme song to the Mexican telenovela "Luz Clarita" at eight years old. At seventeen, she composed three songs for the soundtrack of the Mexican movie "Amar te duele".She went on to be part of the band Feliz No Cumpleaños ( _en. Happy Un-Birthday), a Mexican funk-jazz, pop-rock band. She captivated the audience on a television by performing "El Triste" ( _en. The Sad One), originally performed by José José.

Her first solo album "Mediocre" was released on February 12, 2008 by Warner Music Group. Ximena wrote most of the songs on the album. "Vidas paralelas" ( _en. "Parallel Lives") was a success, having a lot of airplay in Mexico. In late June, Metronomy stated that were fascinated with Ximena's debut album "Mediocre" and the group produced a remix of one of the tracks of Ximena Sariñana's album which is called "La tina". This song is intended to be released in Mexican radio stations and also in countries like Chile, Argentina, Brazil and United States.
