Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation

The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (DFPR) is an executive agency of the U.S. state of Illinois. It was created in 2004 by an executive order promulgated by Governor Rod Blagojevich.

In creating this Department, the Governor consolidated two existing State agencies, the Illinois Department of Financial Institutions, Insurance, and Professional Regulation and the Illinois Office of Banks and Real Estate.cite web|url=http://ilga.gov/legislation/BillStatus.asp?DocNum=406&GAID=3&DocTypeID=EO&LegId=12994&SessionID=3&GA=93|title="EO0406"|work=Illinois General Assembly database|accessdate=2008-05-13]

The consolidated Department regulates banks, other financial institutions, realtors, insurance firms, and insurance agents. It also oversees the professional qualifications of members self-regulating professions such as physicians and lawyers.
