Princess Elena of Romania

Princess Elena of Romania

Princess Elena (Helen) (born 15 November 1950) is a daughter of Michael I (Mihai), King of Romania.

She was born in Lausanne, Switzerland and on 20 July 1983 she married Dr. Leslie Robin Medforth-Mills (8 December 19422 February 2002) in a civil ceremony at Durham and later in a Greek Orthodox church in Lausanne on 24 September of that year. The couple had two children:
*"Nicholas" Michael de Roumanie Medforth-Mills (b. Geneva, 1 April 1985)
*Elisabetta/Elizabeth "Karina" de Roumanie Medforth-Mills (b. Newcastle-upon-Tyne, 4 January 1989)

They were divorced on 28 November 1991 ["Blood Royal - From the time of Alexander the Great to Queen Elizabeth II", by Charles Mosley, published for Ruvigny Ltd, London, 2002 (page 288) (ISBN 0-9524229-9-9)] .

Elena was remarried on 14 August 1998 at Peterlee to Alexander Philips Nixon McAteer (b. Easington, County Durham, 22 October 1964). She is second in the line of succession to the leadership of the Romanian Royal Family, followed by her son, and, as a descendant of Queen Victoria, she and her children are in the line of succession to the British Throne.
