Flight mode

Newer mobile phones have multiple profile settings one of which is flight mode. It is a mode in which mobile phone can be left on while inside a flying aircraft.

Customers have been prevented from using mobile phones in-flight because of the possible impact on aircraft avionics and the potential for interference with ground cell networks.

Flight mode capable mobile phones and personal digital assistants (PDAs) may be used in-flight provided the phone has been switched to flight mode before take-off. Flight mode enables you to operate the basic functions of your mobile phone or PDA while the transmitting function of your phone is switched off.
