Bill Fitzgerald has been hired by
WNCN (NBC-17) as a news anchor to replace Bill Gaines, who left the station in August. He will join co-anchor Melanie Sanders and meteorologist Wes Hohenstein weeknights at 6, 7 and 11 p.m. Prior to joining WNCN, Fitzgerald was an anchor forMSNBC . Prior to joining MSNBC, Fitzgerald served as weekend anchor and general assignment reporter for the NBC owned-and-operated station WVTM-TV inBirmingham ,Alabama . He previously served asreporter for the local cablenews network News 12Long Island ,New York . He was also an off-air reporter and associate
producer for theNBC owned-and-operated WVIT-TV inHartford ,Connecticut . Before starting histelevision career , Fitzgerald taughtjunior high andhigh school level English inRome ,Italy and atEton College inGreat Britain .History
Fitzgerald graduated
cum laude fromHarvard University with aBachelor of Arts in English. He also holds a Master's Degree injournalism fromColumbia University . He and his wife Amy have a daughter, Ciara, and a son, Aidan.
