Butterfly Alphabet

Butterfly Alphabet

The Butterfly Alphabet is a photographic work done by the Norwegian born photographer Kjell B. Sandved. Sandved worked at National Museum of Natural History, Smithsonian Institution, Washington D.C. and by chance he came up with the idea, finding all the letters of the Latin alphabet and the Arabic numerals 0 to 9 in the the patterns on the wings of butterflies.

His photographic excursions led him to Brazil, Congo, Papua New Guinea and Philippines. In 1975, he finished his alphabet, and published it in the Smithsonian Magazine.
