J. Bernlef (
pseudonym for "Hendrik Jan Marsman") (bornJanuary 14 ,1937 inSint Pancras ) is a Dutch writer, lyricist, novelist and translator. He made his literary debut with "Kokkels" in 1960. He became known for a larger public with the novel "Hersenschimmen" from 1984, which treated the themedementia .nl icon [http://www.kb.nl/dichters/bernlef/bernlef-01.html "J. Hooft Award for 1994.Bernlef has also written under the pseudonyms Ronnie Appelman, J. Grauw, Cas den Haan, S. den Haan, and Cas de Vries.
