Matthias Sperling is a contemporary dance choreographer, performer and educator based in London, UK.
He is an Associate Artist with Dance4 and winner of a Bonnie Bird New Choreography Award. His solo, Riff, has been presented at festivals including nottdance07 (UK), Les Reperages (France) and Springdance (Netherlands).
Biography
Born in Canada, Matthias trained with the Canadian Children's Dance Theatre in Toronto, before studying with Transitions Dance Company at the Laban college in the UK.[1] He was a member of Wayne McGregor’s Random Dance Company for five years and also worked with companies including Kerry Nicholls Dance Company and Matthew Bourne’s Adventures in Motion Pictures, besides participating in the Jerwood Bank Project 2006 with Siobhan Davies Dance Company.
His film and television credits include an appearance in the film Billy Elliot (2000), appearances on Arte Television and working as Dance Assistant on the film Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005). In 2007 he worked with Dance4 on a Creative Partnerships project with Willi Dorner as well as the Aim Higher educational project.
Current projects include a collaboration with Senegal-based choreographer Andreya Ouamba for Woking Dance Festival and a collaboration with Siobhan Davies, to be performed in spring 2009.
