Biography

*Satoshi Watanabe was born on May 26th, 1910, in Tokyo. He graduated from Gakushuuin Middle High School and Tokyo High School. In 1933, he graduated from Tokyo Imperial University with degree in theoretical physics. During his university days, Torahiko Terada guided him.

*The imperial government sent him to France to study. Prof. Dobroy guided Watanabe to study in thermodynamics and wave mechanics.

*In 1937, he moved to Leipzig and started nuclear theory under Heiserberg. In the same year, Watanabe married to Donate Dower, who was a scholar of German literature and became a professor at the University of Hawaii.

*In 1939, beginning of World War 2, he left Germany and stayed with Boer for a while. In December, he came back to Japan with his family.

*In Japan, he worked at Rikagakukenkyuujo, at Tokyo Imperial University as an Assistant Professor, a Physics Professor in Rikkyo University. After World War 2, in 1950, he left for the United States.

*In 1956, he became a researcher in the IBM Watson Laboratory and started t build his own information theory based on quantum mechanics. He also worked as a Professor at Yale University, a Professor in Hawaii University, a chair person of International Time Academy, Vice President of International Philosophy Academy.

*On October 15the, 1993, he died in Tokyo.

His father, Chifuyu Watanabe, was a Minister of Justice at Second Wakatsuki Cabinet. His elder brother, Takeshi Watanabe, was Vice Minister of Finance for International Affairs and director general of Asia Development Bank. His son, Hajime Watanabe, is a Professor of Philosophy at Santa Barbara School of California University.
