NBA Draft was the 54th draft in theNational Basketball Association . It was held onJune 26 ,1996 inEast Rutherford, New Jersey . It is widely considered to be one of the deepest and most talentedNBA draft s in history, with over one-third of the first round picks, as well as one undrafted player, later becoming NBA All-Stars. The draft contained three players that won NBA MVP awards (Kobe Bryant ,Allen Iverson ,Steve Nash ) and seven All-Stars (Shareef Abdur-Rahim ,Ray Allen ,Žydrūnas Ilgauskas ,Stephon Marbury ,Jermaine O'Neal ,Peja Stojaković ,Antoine Walker ).Marcus Camby , while he has not made an All-Star team as of 2008, was the 2007 Defensive Player of the Year.Cleveland Cavaliers center and four-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year All-Star
Ben Wallace was signed by theWashington Bullets as an undrafted free agent prior to the 1996-97 NBA season.SLAM Magazine named this the best NBA Draft of all time.HOOP Magazine named it the second-best, behind the 1984 draft, whose highlights includedHakeem Olajuwon ,Michael Jordan ,Charles Barkley , andJohn Stockton .
