Nicholas Monck

Bishop Monck.

Nicholas Monck (c. 1610 – 7 December 1661) was bishop of Hereford and provost of Eton. He was the younger brother of George Monck, 1st Duke of Albemarle.^[1]

He attended Wadham College, Oxford. In October 1642 married the daughter of Thomas Payne, rector of Plymtree. Monck served as curate to his father-in-law, succeeded him in October 1646.^[1]

In December 1653, the Royalist, John Granville, 1st Earl of Bath, appointed him rector of Kilkhampton, Cornwall. He subsequently used Nicholas, in August 1659, to convey a message from Charles II to his brother George. ^[1]

Following the restoration, Nicholas was rewarded by Charles with the positions at Eton and Hereford. He never visited his diocese.^[1]
