The history of Socata goes back to 1911 when the aircraft manufacturer
Morane-Saulnier was founded. In 1966 Morane-Saulnier changed name to Socata (which is anabbreviation for "Societe de Construction d'Avions de Tourisme et d'Affaires", which is French for "Company for the construction of aircraft for tourism and business") when the company was bought bySud Aviation to produce small aircraft. In 2000 Socata became a wholly ownedsubsidiary of EADS.As of June 27, 2008, EADS was expected to sell a controlling interest in Socata to the French industrial conglomerate Daher.
