Beaconing

Beaconing is a gerund substantiating the emitting of signals from a beacon. Linguistically correct wording would be just transmitting from a beacon.

Common denominator is no reply to an independent transmission.

*(1) A continuous signaling of error conditions on a LAN.

*(2) In a wireless LAN (WLAN), the continuous transmission of small packets from a base station that advertise its presence.

*(3) SmartBeaconing™ is an APRS®-compatible algorithm for effectively transmitting GPS positions for mapping and minimizing QRM.

*(4) in a token ring network, beaconing is the process of isolating a a fault domain so that recovery actions can take place. A beacon frame is sent by the adapter if a failure in the line is detected.
