Service Availability Forum
- Service Availability Forum
:"SA Forum redirects here. It can also refer to the Something Awful Forums."The Service Availability Forum (SAF or SA Forum) is a consortium of industry-leading communications and computing companies working together to foster an ecosystem that enables the use of commercial off-the-shelf building blocks in the creation of high availability network infrastructure products, systems and services.
The Service Availability Forum develops and publishes high availability and management software interface specifications. They also promote and facilitate their industry adoption.
The SA Forum specifications enable the implementation of carrier grade systems and services built with commercial off-the-shelf building blocks. This modular architecture, build on open standard hardware and software, allows for greater reuse and a much quicker turnaround for new product introductions.
The OpenSAF Project [http://www.opensaf.org] started in January 2008 is as open source implemention of the SA Forum specifications and SCOPE Alliance recommendations for NEP High Availability middleaware
The SA Forum specifications include:
*Hardware Platform Interface (HPI): Separates the hardware from management middleware and makes each independent of the other.
*Application Interface Specification (AIS): Standardizes the interface between Service Availability Forum-compliant High Availability (HA) middleware and service application
In June 2005, the SA Forum became a founding member of the Mountain View Alliance, a consortium of consortia intended to enable the adoption of commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) system solutions.
