November 28 ,2004 , KLM Flight 1673 departed fromAmsterdam Schiphol Airport at 16:46. During take-off, the nose gear of the plane hit a bird. This incident was reported to air traffic control, and the flight continued normally. Upon landing at 18:50 onBarcelona International Airport , the aircraft started to deviate to the left of the runway and eventually ran off the runway into a construction pit. All crew and passengers could leave the aircraft safely, but the aircraft itself had to be completely written off.The cause turned out to be a broken cable in the nose wheel steering system caused by the bird collision. The cable was not properly greased and therefore worn locally.
