SM City Marikina is considered as one of the most beautiful and modern design mall in the Philippines.

SM City Marikina is a strategically located beside the current rehabilitation and development of Marikina River and Marikina Riverbanks Center, and situated along Marcos Highway, Barangay Calumpang, Marikina City. It has a total of 60,000 square meter land area and a total of 124,877.85 square meter gross floor area. SM City Marikina is envisioned to become one of the largest malls in Metro Manila in terms of land and its floor areas, and is set to become the largest mall in eastern region of Metro Manila when the proposed Annex building will be completed, surpassing the GFA of near malls: Sta. Lucia East Grandmall, Robinsons Place Metro East and Riverbanks Centermall, all situated in Marcos Highway, in Marikina City.

SM City Marikina was opened to public on September 5, 2008, with opening ceremonies and ribbon cutting headed by MMDA Chairman Bayani Fernando, Marikina City Mayor Marides Fernando and among other city officials. Together with the owner of SM Prime Holdings Henry Sy; SM Prime Holdings President Hans T. Sy and SM Supermarket President Herbert T. Sy, and the delegates, celebrity guests, and shop managers and owners. The mall was blessed by Antipolo Bishop Gabriel Reyes. The inauguration underscored the long relationship between SM, founded by Henry Sy Sr. as a shoe store (Shoemart) in 1958, and the shoe city of Marikina. On its grand opening day, the people arrived at the Mall was reached to 100,000.

History

The mall began its plans in 2006 when Henry Sy bought an estimated 120,000 square meter lot that was owned by Bayani Fernando which was supposedly to become a carnival/entertainment lot called Fun Pamilya. Construction began on early 2006. SM Prime Holdings and BF Construction Corporation are the developers of the mall.

BF Corporation's role is to build some of the ground-breaking constructions, they constructed the building and applied 73-strong vertical tubes which will enable the mall to support the upper levels (Basement 1 to 3rd Floor) from its ground area (Basement 2). Also, they are responsible for the construction of new bridges (branching towards Marcos Highway) surrounding the establishment. The mall's main entrance is located at the 3rd level (1st Floor of the mall) to par with Marcos Highway's high elevation, SM Marikina is also considered as the only SM mall in the Philippines having the main entrance located on the 3rd level of the establishment.

SM City Marikina opened it's doors to the public on September 5, 2008. It is the 31st SM Supermall built in the Philippines, 14th latest SM Mall built within Metro Manila, and 3rd among other SM malls opened in the eastern region of Metropolitan Manila, after SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City and SM Supercenter Pasig in Pasig City (excluding nearby SM City Taytay in Rizal Province).

SM Prime Holdings and BF Contruction Corporation have a master plan to build an Annex building, located at the back of the mall which will extend from its main building. The construction will begin early 2009. It is envisioned to become one of the largest malls in Metro Manila in terms of land and floor area when its completed.
