Carol P. Christ

Carol P. Christ (born 1945 [cite LAF|id=n78-67482] ) is a teacher and author and holds a Ph.D. from Yale University. She is the author of the widely reprinted essay "Why Women Need the Goddess," cite web |title= per Carol P Christ biography for Signs Out of Time Project|url=http://www.belili.org/marija/bios/carol_christ.html, which argues in favor of the concept of there having been an ancient religion of a supreme Goddess. Christ has written five influential books on women's spirituality and feminist theology. She co-edited the classic anthologies "Weaving the Visions" (1989) and "Womanspirit Rising" (1979/1989) which revolutionized the teaching and study of religion in North America.

She has taught at major universities in the United States, including Columbia University, Harvard Divinity School, Pomona College, San Jose State, and the California Institute of Integral Studies.
