Simon Corbell

Simon Corbell is an Australian politician in the Australian Capital Territory, and is one of the seven members of the Legislative Assembly electorate of Molonglo, representing the Australian Labor Party. First elected in January 1997 in a countback following the resignation of former Chief Minister Rosemary Follett, he has been a minister in the Stanhope government since 2001, and at present is the Attorney-General, Minister for Police and Emergency Services and Manager of Government Business. Prior to the 2004 election he was Minister for Health and for Planning and Land Management.

As Attorney-General, he has been involved in the establishment of the Human Rights Act 2004 and the Human Rights Commission, as well as attempts to create legislation recognising civil unions in the ACT.

Prior to his election to the Assembly, Corbell worked for Fraser MHR John Langmore prior to Langmore's departure upon his appointment as Director of the Division for Social Development at the United Nations Secretariat.
