TelefériQo

El TelefériQo (from "teleférico" and Quito) is a gondola lift in Quito, Ecuador, running from the edge of the city centre up the east side of Pichincha Volcano to a lookout known as Cruz Loma. It is one of the highest aerial lifts in the world, rising from 2950 metres (8850 ft) to 4100 metres (13,400 ft). The ascent takes 8 to 10 minutes, travelling some 2500 linear metres.

The TelefériQo opened in July 2005 and has become one of Quito's most popular tourist attractions. At the summit there are a number of restaurants, coffee shops and a variety of tourist stores. There are also trails for hiking and points where pictures can be taken of Quito. Due to the increased altitude and the wind on the mountain it is considerably cooler than the city and is also susceptible to fog, especially in the mornings.

The visitor centre at the base includes the Vulqano Park amusement park, restaurants & food court, and other attractions.
