Foundation of Technical Education

The Foundation of Technical Education (FTE) is an Iraqi administrative organization belonging to Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (Iraq), it is responsible for the Iraqi Technical Colleges and Institutes.

Prior to the academic year 2001-2002 there were more than 35 technical institutes in Iraq awarding 2-year practical vocational diplomas (Technical Diploma) in different fields. The Baghdad-based Foundation of Technical Institutes, FTI, administered all these institutions. The FTI itself was under the jurisdiction of the
Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (Iraq). The Foundation of Technical Institutes was renamed in 2002 to the Foundation of Technical Education, FTE. This organization now controls both the remaining 27 technical institutes and the 9 newly established technical colleges. Some of the technical colleges were founded in the academic year of 2001-2002. Others used to be technical institutes that were upgraded to technical colleges (For example, the Technical College of Mosul used to be Technical Institute of Mosul prior to 2002.) These new technical colleges offer 4-year Bachelor’s degree programs (BA and BSc) and 2-year Master’s degree programs.
