The 1993 season of the
Primera División Peruana , the top category ofPeru vianfootball (soccer) , was played by 16 teams. The national champions wereUniversitario de Deportes .The 1993 season was played with a regular season tournament played on a home-and-away
round-robin basis followed by a Liguilla post-season. The winners of the regular season were crowned national champions and qualified for theCopa Libertadores 1994 . The second place team qualified for the Liguilla post-season with a bonus point while the teams that placed third to eighth contested a playoff round. Three teams from the playoff round qualified for the Liguilla and the winnersAlianza Lima qualified for theCopa Libertadores . The bottow two teams were relegated and the third-to-last team played a relegation playoff with the Copa Peru runners-up at the end of the regular season. A second season known as the Intermediate Tournament was played to determine which team obtained theCopa CONMEBOL berth. However, the winners Deportivo Municipal declined to play theCopa CONMEBOL 1994 and the berth went to the Liguilla runners-upSporting Cristal .Results
