Kernel marker

Kernel marker

Kernel markers are a kernel feature which permits tracing of kernel-user space interaction. A marker can be on or off depending on whether a probe is connected to it or not. It may cause a slight overhead for certain operations.

Mathieu Desnoyers have created a patch-set that implements kernel markers for the Linux kernel. It was merged into the 2.6.24 release. [ [http://kernelnewbies.org/Linux_2_6_24#head-1dc029816479d16d335498166b838f9478fbf5f7 Linux 2 6 24 - Linux Kernel Newbies ] ]

Linux Kernel Markers are needed for SystemTap.
