Sharon D. Pérez-Suárez is an Environmental Engineer in Region 3
EPA ’s Waste & Chemicals Management Division [http://www.epa.gov/reg3wcmd/wasteminimization.htm EPA Region 3 Waste Minimization] . She is responsible for implementing the National Partnership for Environmental Priorities [http://www.epa.gov/npep/ (NPEP)] program across the Mid-Atlantic Region and providing technical assistance to industries and state facilities. She specializes in process engineering and waste minimization. She provides technical assistance in hazardous waste and chemicals management to commercial facilities and industry consultants in the Mid-Atlantic Region who are regulated by the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA).In addition to her role within the EPA, Sharon also works in the private sector. Currently, she is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of [http://www.veritasremodeling.com/ Veritas Remodeling] , a construction firm with a burgeoning presence in the sustainable building arena. In her role with Veritas, Sharon will design and implement business development strategies, management processes, and corporate policies. Sharon's extensive experience in relationship marketing and leading multi-functional teams in technical compliance activities will assist Veritas in implementing decision-making tools such as risk assessment, quality control and cost-benefit analysis in order to increase Veritas Remodeling’s growth and influence in the Northeast region.
Sharon has over 5 years of experience in government and university research. Prior to joining EPA, Sharon was an Environmental Specialist with Project Resources Inc. (PRI), a private environmental engineering and remediation consulting firm. With PRI, Sharon provided technical support for several Superfund sites and groundwater contamination projects. In addition, she worked with city and state water and wastewater treatment facilities to provide compliance assistance under the EPA Risk Management Program (RMP), while performing risk assessment audits.
Sharon holds a bachelor’s degree in Geology from the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez; and two master’s degrees: one in Geochemistry from the [http://www.ufl.edu University of Florida] , and a second one in Civil Engineering from the [http://www.colorado.edu/ University of Colorado at Boulder] . She is a Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) and is currently certified as a Project Management Professional (PMP) by the Project Management Institute in Pennsylvania. Sharon is also a member of the International Scientific Advisory Committee on [http://www.hwm1.tuc.gr/ Hazardous Waste Management Conference] hosted by Polyeco et al.
In her free time, you can find Sharon playing tennis; mountain biking; spending quality-time with her 13 years-old son, Alejandro; or reading books in business development. She also has interests in sustainability, international policy, and commercial space travel.
